FamilyPalooza, Southeast Christian Church’s annual Labor Day celebration, is just around the corner, and Southeast’s Blankenbaker, Crestwood and Southwest campuses need volunteers to make the event a success.
FamilyPalooza is a free, family-friendly community event that attracted more than 10,000 people last year.
“FamilyPalooza is a great event for everyone,” Southwest Campus First Impressions Coordinator Tara Jones said. “Whether you’ve been coming to Southeast for a long time, or you’ve never been, there’s something fun for everyone.”
Hundreds of volunteers are needed to make the event special for everyone who attends.
Volunteers can serve as ticket-takers, tour guides, greeters, snow cone makers, waterslide and inflatable operators, face painters and a number of other roles.
One of the largest needs at all three campuses is for volunteers during the second and third shifts of the event.
“The more volunteers we have, the more opportunities staff and volunteers have to connect to new people,” Jones said.
FamilyPalooza offers the community the opportunity to invite family members, neighbors, friends and coworkers to check out what Southeast has to offer. The event is a first-time connection point for many.
“The heart behind FamilyPalooza is to fulfill Southeast’s mission of connecting people to Jesus and one another,” Crestwood Campus Connection and Campus Support Pastor Scott Gordon said. “Our goal is for people to feel welcomed and appreciated by our church, so they can see it as a place they would want to come back to.”
Serving is a two-hour commitment at the Blankenbaker and Crestwood campuses, and a two-and-a-half-hour commitment at the Southwest Campus. Volunteers can sign up for one or more slots, if available.
FamilyPalooza is an event that allows families to serve together, and there’s something for everyone to do. Children as young as 8 years old may serve with their parents. Children in sixth grade and up may serve without a parent.
FamilyPalooza is a great opportunity for those who are new to serving at Southeast.
“FamilyPalooza is a great outlet for new folks to get their feet wet in a serving role,” Gordon said. “Many people in the past have seen this event as their springboard to serve long-term.”
New volunteers are encouraged to sign up soon, as all volunteers must complete a Confidential Volunteer Application, participate in online child safety training and have verifiable participation at a Southeast campus for at least six months.
Gordon said his hope is that volunteers would be used by God to share the love of Christ with people who are new to Southeast.
“I pray that our volunteers would be in prayer for the event, and that their heart for the Lord would be evident in the connections they make with people and the joy they have in serving others,” he said.
Each campus has its own specific volunteer needs. For a complete list of available volunteer positions and to register to serve, visit www.southeastchristian.org.
