Dave Stone preached his last sermon as pastor of Southeast Christian Church during worship services May 25-26.
It was a sermon 30 years in the making.
As Stone reflected on his three decades at Southeast, his eyes welled with tears of joy and gratitude.
Stone thanked all who have been on this ministry journey with him, including those sitting in a service any given Sunday, Southeast’s church family, his staff, friends and his wife, Beth, and three children.
Stone’s sermon, “Lean into the Word,” summed up his closing thoughts on his time at Southeast and his excitement for the future.
At the close of the service, Stone passed a red baton to Idleman, symbolizing the transfer of leadership, just as retired Senior Minister Bob Russell passed a baton to Stone when Russell preached his last sermon as minister of Southeast. The inscription on the baton said, “To Kyle, continue to preach the Word.”
Idleman invited the Stone family, the lead team and Southeast’s campus pastors to the platform to pray for Dave and the future of the church.
