Christmas in Western culture is wrapped up in ugly sweaters, toys, technology gadgets, a picture with Santa, sugar cookies and white-elephant gift exchanges.

But the real spotlight should be on a baby swaddled in a manger, and The Living Word bookstore at Southeast Christian Church’s Blankenbaker Campus has a variety of items that keep the “Christ” in Christmas.

“From the nativity displays to children’s storybooks, it keeps you focused on the real, Biblical story of Christmas,” said Shirley Lovell, Living Word resource manager.

Through its resources, The Living Word has the privilege of helping people experience the presence of Jesus, and it is magnified during the holiday season.

“You can’t find the Christmas items we have at other places because ours are all about Jesus,” said Sharon Milburn, Living Word purchasing associate. “Everything we get has something to do with Him. We’re celebrating Jesus, not just trying to sell Christmas.”

The Living Word has nativity scenes made of a variety of materials, wall art, ornaments, Christmas cards, candles, wreathes, Advent devotionals and interactive items for children.

One book that’s great for families to read together is “The Advent Storybook,” which shares 25 Bible stories leading up to Christmas day and shows why Jesus came.

Christmas décor, Bibles and Bible accessories are currently 25% off regular prices.

The Living Word is open Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday 4 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 6:45 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
