Bible & Beach 2021

Scores of students make the decision to be baptized each year at Bible & Beach.

Bible & Beach, Southeast Christian Church’s annual conference for high school students, is changing locations but not changing its purpose.

For 2022, the weeklong camp normally held in Florida will be held at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. And, yes, there is a beach in Michigan.

“The purpose is not changing at all … It’s always an event where we reach the lost. In short form, we say Bible & Beach is a reach event where we unapologetically pursue unconnected students and create an environment that’s conducive for them to respond to the Gospel,” said Student Pastor Matt Erxleben. “That is not changing for summer 2022, but what is changing is Bible & Beach moving to Hope College. We could not be more excited with this new era in our high school ministry at Southeast.”

Bible & Beach is for students from all Southeast campuses and is scheduled for June 20-24. Erxleben said students and leaders will be able to enjoy Ottawa Beach at Lake Michigan, which is about 10 minutes away from the campus.

Some of the positives of moving to Hope College include a savings of $100 per camper, a shorter charter bus commute, access to a dining hall and more recreational options/time each afternoon. High school students will be the only ones sleeping in the college dorms that week.

Most importantly, Erxleben said the Student Ministry team’s “prayerful” decision to move Bible & Beach to Hope College will allow more high school students to experience Jesus.

“It’s been important to us as a student team to have all of our high school students at one week,” Erxleben added. “We couldn’t be more excited and confident that this is the right move for summer 2022. As we’ve grown as a church, it’s been much harder to have everybody from all of our Southeast campuses in the same room. Bible & Beach this past summer was special and unique because we were all in the same room, but one of the obstacles is we had a wait list. We wanted to have space for our students to invite their friends. This particular venue allows for around 800 more people than the capacity we were able to take last year. Just the potential of that is pretty substantial.”

From authentic worship to beach-front games, small-group conversations to large-group activities, Bible & Beach is designed to awaken fresh faith and to form new friendships.

Bible & Beach registration opens March 4. The cost is $425.
