Put 90 middle school students in a gym with experienced basketball coaches and good things happen. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes Middle School Camp was held in the Sports & Fitness Center at Southeast Christian Church’s Blankenbaker Campus July 7-10.

Each day, coaches led athletes in drills, games and devotions. Days included coaching in basketball skills and life issues.

Ballard High School coach Chris Renner, Fern Creek High School coach James Schooler and Eastern High School coach Joey Hamilton volunteered time to help with the camp. So did Isaac Fields, a standout from South Oldham High School, who will play at Clemson University in the fall.

“This camp is about discipleship,” said Former University of Louisville football player Scott Long, who works with students and coaches at area middle schools throughout the year in his role at FCA. “These kids attend FCA at their schools. Here we get a chance to disciple them.”
